Dog Shoes and Dog Art

I had to have nail surgery.
I am wearing a blue bandage on my paw and it hurts to walk.
It hurts a little.....enough so I have to limp.
It has slowed me down a bit but that is not a bad thing because I like to sniff (a lot!) when I walk my humans.
I tried to get sympathy and it worked for a bit but I think they are on  to me.  I thought a shoe might make me look a bit stylish.

Then I found these dogs made of Nike parts.
Cool!
But I don't see how I can possibly get one of these on my paw.

Boey Oh Boey: Art on Styrofoam Cups

Cheeming Boey is an artist.

He uses materials that are inexpensive and easy to find.

His art is made using Sharpies on Styrofoam cups.

He sells them for hundreds of dollars.

I am all for an artist who can take a cup from the trash and a Sharpie from kitchen (isn't that where you keep your Sharpie?) then sell the results or use it to pee in.  Gotta love it!

Playing Fetch

http://www.thecolor.com

I think fetch is for the birds.
Throw food, I'll chase it.
Throw a ball, not so much.

When I saw the headline "A Jack Russell Dog plays fetch with himself", I thought "What an idiot!"
It is bad enough playing fetch with a human, ain't no way I am going to do it all by myself.

I went ahead and took a peek just to see how it was done.  I have to say, I am impressed at the ingenuity.  However, I am still not convinced playing fetch with a ball is a fun activity.

Behind the Survival of Every Good Man (or Woman) is a Tampon

I have always advocated having

Tampons,

Kotex,

and Press'n Seal

in one's First Aid Kit

AND NOW
more reasons to pay attention to my wisdom.

I just want to be in the store when the guys are trying to pick out which kind of Tampon or Kotex to buy.
Oh the irony of it all!

Herb and Dorothy

I don't claim to understand conceptual art.

Sometimes I like it.

Sometimes I don't like it.

I don't claim to understand minimalist art.

Sometimes I like it.

Sometimes I don't like it.

However, one thing I do understand is collectors buying what they like and that is exactly what Herb and Dorothy Vogel did.

Over a 50 year span they purchased almost 5000 pieces of art and they did it on a budget.  Herb was a Postal Worker and Dorothy was a Librarian. They had no children and lived modestly, choosing to live an artful life and literally surrounding themselves with what they loved.

Yesterday I watched a movie about Dorothy and Herb and their art collection.  I didn't particularly like what they chose to spend their money on but since it wasn't my money it doesn't really matter if I liked it or not.  Some of the pieces was interesting, others not so much but Dorothy and Herb (the cutest little couple in the world) along with all the artist friends they collected along with the art was the real story.

In the end the Vogels did the most amazing thing with their collection which ended up being worth millions.  They chose to give their art to museums so the public could enjoy it.  That I understand.

"Fifty Works For Fifty States" has allowed a museum in each and every state to own fifty pieces from the Vogel collection. What an incredible gift.

So today I was curious about Herb and Dorothy and did a little Google search on them.  I found out that Herb died yesterday..........sometimes I am psychic like that and I could actually hear the spooky music in the background.

Test your Vogel art collector knowledge.... I got ten out of ten.

Cool Creative Coffee

I don't claim to understand coffee drinkers.

I love the smell of a newly opened can of coffee, and occasionally the aroma while a fresh pot is brewing...but drink the stuff?

Not a chance.  It is just nasty and for a dog who can lick himself, that is saying something!

HOWEVER

I have discovered a whole new world in coffee cup art.
Art in the cup not on the cup.

I would much rather look at the coffee than drink it.  Pretty coffee, who wudda thunk it?

Art Trees

I like trees.
I like to lay in the shade of trees.
I like to chase a squirrel or cat up a tree.
I like to pee on trees.

I like to look at trees.
I look at the trees after I pee on them.
I look at the trees after I chase a squirrel or cat.
Best of all is looking at the tree while laying in its shade.

In Search of a Dog House

I went in search of a dog house and found.....

Eaten out of house and home.
A house divided against itself cannot stand
Like a house on fire
Get your house in order
In the dog house
This Old House
Random House
Safe house
Full house
Doll house
Cat-house
Tree house
White house
House work
House salad
Housewife
Housecoat
House cleaning
House rules
On the house

 Little Boxes

Cats
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

Dogs

And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

Kids

And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.

Tiny House

And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

I want an annex in the back yard.  I think I need a cool place to hang out away from Spencer and any kids that might be roaming around.  It doesn't need to be very big, just enough room for a hammock inside and a swing outside.  I would especially like it if there were something up against the fence so I could sneak out from time to time and roam the neighborhood.

The more I look, the more I like the tiny houses.  Maybe I'll get a log cabin on wheels.  I could hook Spencer up and we could travelI can see it now...black dog hauling log cabin on wheels, me perched on the back, ears blowing in the wind. I may even let the humans come along but they are going to have to get their own house.

Bringing New Life to Still Life

Take a look at this.....

It's a cool looking still life painting.....right?

Well, sort of it is and sort of it isn't.

NOW
Take a look at this.....

See?
The photographer is using a live subject painted to be an integral part of the still life.  So cool!

I found these pictures here.....and......the artist's website here.

God Bless Texas A&M

*from my human
Love,
Buddy

I don't usually use this forum to express my personal or political views, preferring instead to let Buddy have fun with art and the world at large.  However this week something happened in College Station, Texas that I want to comment on.

I lived in College Station for two years.  My former husband attended Texas A&M University and even though I only took classes through their community education program, I still consider myself an "Aggie" to the bone.

Last week the students of TAMU stepped up in true Twelfth Man fashion and stood guard at a fallen soldier's funeral.  They formed a Maroon Wall of protection, determined that a mourning family would not be disturbed by fanatic members of a cruel "church" who planned to picket the funeral.

No voice could speak so loudly or eloquently as those students who held silent vigil  in honor of  Lt. Col. Roy Tisdale as he was laid to rest.  I am damn proud of all those who saw a wrong about to happen and took actions to prevent it.

As for the so called "church", they don't deserve the time of day or an inch of space on this or any forum.  If they ever come to my town, I plan on being there.  I will stand.  I will be the 12th man.  I will be the Maroon Wall.

Gig "em Aggies!!

Malware to Strike on Monday?

 PAY ATTENTION!

 I hate doomsday warnings....Y2K....December 21. 2012....Malware to Strike July 9th.

Apparently this problem has been brewing for awhile.  Of course I didn't pay attention to it because.....well.....because I tend to sort of stick my head in the sand and hope, hope, hope nothing bad is going to happen to my computer.

https://twitter.com/#!/ClarkHoward
However, when I hear a warning from Clark Howard, I pay attention because.....well.....because I love Clark Howard AND he is usually right.

So I quickly took myself to Clark's website and checked out  what he had to say

There is information from the FBI website and directions to another site (http://dcwg.org/) where you can find out if a computer is infected.

Thankfully, I don't have a problem, but I am glad I pulled my head out of the sand and checked.

So I guess I'll see you Monday at least I hope so.

Buddy

RIP ANDY

You may remember him as Matlock, Sheriff Taylor, Opie's dad, an actor, a singer, a comic.  Andy Griffith was all of these and more.

My favorite movie of his was "No Time For Sergeants" which is a timeless treasure.  However, there is absolutely no comic routine that compares to "What It Was, Was Football".

If you haven't discovered these classics, take a minute or two and enjoy them now.  There is nothing like a stand up comic who is a stand up guy and you don't mind if your kids are listening in.

Thanks Andy, you'll be missed.  Think I'll go find an orange soda.

Sometimes You Shouldn't Believe Your Eyes

Here is an amazing picture.

I saw it on Facebook with this caption:

Extraordinary Timing...
Mother and Father saving a baby bird from falling.
wow...

At the last count there were 675 likes, 1438 shares,  and a whole string of comments about how amazing the picture is (which indeed it is) AND how wonderful it is that the mommy and daddy are working so hard to save their baby.

H O W E V E R....
The picture is actually of birds fighting.
Here is the photographer's website describing it.

Here is another photograph from the series.

My point being....
You can't believe how something appears,
AND
You can't always believe what you read on the internet, unless of course you read it here.

HIgh Fructose Corn Syrup by any other name

http://www.corn.

High Fructose Corn Syrup by any other name will not be "corn sugar".

The Corn Refiners Association wanted to rename their product from High Fructose Corn Syrup to Corn Sugar but the FDA denied their request.  Well DUH!

I am not saying you should or should not consume any product with HFCS, that is up to you.

I don't expect this to be the end of it, I'm sure the corn growers, will try another tactic to make their product more acceptable and overcome the stigma of HFCS and health concerns.

It doesn't matter to me what you eat, but if you are going to put it in your body you should do a little research and make up your own mind about it.

Buddy
